June is peak season in the Serengeti on many levels. The animal activity is high, the weather is perfect, and the action and sights are off the charts amazing. The bird activity is peak and we will strive to capture great images of them along with all other species as they display behavior, pose in great light, interact with others, and intermingle amongst themselves. We will endeavor to make great images of  cheetah with cubs, giraffes silhouetted against a great Serengeti sunrise or sunset, birds in flight or with freshly caught prey, in addition to all other ionic Serengeti moments. Your face will light up as we capture momma lions carrying cubs in their mouths, predators chasing down a meal, the African Crowned Crane as it regally stares into our lenses, and so much more.

If you’re not aware, there aren’t many places that rival the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area for wildlife diversity, number of species, activity, and iconic subjects. We will focus on them all including the omnivores, carnivores, birds, and reptiles. With regards to birds, we will look for the highly admired malachite kingfisher, lilac breasted and Eurasian rollers, African crowned crane, different bee eaters, various raptors, secretary birds, and more. We certainly won’t run out of subjects. The guides with whom I work are all “eagle eyed” in spotting even the tiniest birds. If you love photography and love to photograph wildlife and birds, this safari is a must.

The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a large volcanic caldera that has become a unique ecosystem unto itself. It teems with wildlife, including The Big Five. The location provides a great opportunity to spot the highly endangered Black Rhinoceros. Park rangers guard these majestic mammals 24 hours a day. The crater floor covers 100 square miles and is predominately open grassland but also houses two prominent woodland areas  abundant with birds. Numbers are estimated between 25,000 - 30,000 animals and include lions, black rhino, wildebeests, cape buffalo, zebra, hyena, elephant, gazelles, monkeys, just to name some.

Our shutter fingers will work non stop. We’ll also take advantage of magnificent scenic opportunities to diversify your portfolio. From the solitary acacia tree at sunrise or sunset to the gorgeous and iconic rock outcroppings known as kopjes, you’ll be busy making photos. We’ll work to find situations where the wildlife can be found in these gorgeous settings to create the ultimate photographic experience.

While we're at each location we’ll take advantage of every great photo opportunity we encounter. If you've been with me on any of my photo tours, you know, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE LIGHT. If there's an opportunity with any species in great light, we won't pass it up for the sake of what may be around the corner.

You’ll also be given first hand instruction. It’s my belief that the more help you receive, the better your images will be and it’s my desire to get you the best possible images. We’ll discuss important concepts such as light, composition, head angles of the animals, the importance of the background, etc. Additionally, in that birds are small, we’re not limited to early and late light to get great photos. I will provide instruction on how to use flash in conjunction with a MagMod so we can extend the number of hours we get to photograph and still walk away with great photographs of our feathered friends!

Although this tour is primarily for the wildlife photographer, if you want to get the experience of what a wildlife photographer does, get first hand experience of how patience pays off to get great photos, and to realize how persistence allows you to witness some amazing animal behavior, this trip is also for you. Invite your spouse or child (18 years of age and older) to accompany you. All participants do pay the same fee. Please realize that photography is the priority and our days will revolve around capturing great images.
